Letter to Dan Chaon, my teacher/advisor:

Hi!

I'm getting my linear design piece workshopped for next class, but I
really don't think the story I'm writing can be accomplished in a linear
way. Should I do the assignment, make it linear and not be happy with
it, or should I do it more modular, and be happier with it?

Thanks,
Aries

Either way we're going to make fun of you, so you better do it so that you're happy with it.

What does "modular" mean in a story-writing context? I can kind of imagine that it consists of pieces and is nonlinear, and therefore tells a story in something of a mozaic fashion, but I've never heard the term before.
